Community Music Therapy

I qualified with an MSc in Music Therapy from QMU in 2013, am a member of BAMT and registered with HCPC.

My practice is a meeting of Music Therapy and Community Music which combine to form the growing field of Community Music Therapy.

I work within the social model of disability rather than the medical model of disability. The social model identifies that it is society which creates barriers for disabled people as opposed to the medical model which views the disabled individual as someone to be fixed or normalised. You can read more about the social model of disability here on the Drake Music website

My work is based in performing venues instead of clinical settings and sessions are guided by every voice present in the room and following both verbal and nonverbal communication. Since March 2021 I have been running music therapy sessions online due to the current Covid circumstances. I have found this to be a time of great reflection and development and it has been wonderful to work with people in finding practical accessible solutions in order to work online together. In 2022 I hope to return to some in person working but also to continue to offer sessions online.
