Sonia Allori

Research

I completed a PhD in music composition from Edinburgh Napier University which explored the combination of words and music through the lens of an Italian cultural perspective and gender to create a portfolio of new works:

Music, text, gender and notions/influences of an Italian cultural perspective as the source for original music compositions.

In summer 2022 I had an article reflecting upon my composition process during the pandemic in Itamar a new music online journal curated by the University of Valencia. You can read the article here.

I gave a paper at the Music Technology in Education 2021 online conference on November 2021:

EWI, Haptics and the Deaf Musician

“In this session, Sonia Allori of Drake Music will present the music technology that has become integral to her practice today as a Deaf and Disabled composer and musician. Delegates will learn about Allori’s musical journey with the EWI (electronic wind instrument) and will gain understanding of music tech and access through real-life examples.” (Session description from conference website)

In July 2018 I gave a paper at Cripping the Muse – Music & Disability Studies conference at Leeds University. My paper was titled, “Lost & Found – Therapeutic song-writing with stroke survivors”. You can read more about the conference here.
